February 2019 adidas & KANYE WEST announce the launch of the YEEZY BOOST 700 'Salt'

The YEEZY BOOST 700 features a full-length drop in boost midsole, an upper composed of salt grey suede overlays and grey premium leather with mesh underlays and reflective deatils on both the heel and midsection. The YEEZY BOOST 700 'Salt' lands with a black rubber outsole to provide defining contrast.

Since it first came into being, adidas Consortium has been committed to bringing together partners, retailers and collectives who exemplify a unique, fearless approach to collaboration. Each new partnership offers up a creative new take on the iconic styles that adidas has developed over the decades. In doing so they shine an entirely new light on the sportswear brand’s high-performance technologies and commitment to craftsmanship.

While this latest release diverges from the usual adidas Consortium way of working, in that it was created in-house by adidas, the final outcome was only made possible – and elevated to such great heights – due to the input of former adidas Director of Footwear Creation, Jacques Chassaing. Jacques was the designer responsible for one of the most iconic adidas lines of all time - the ZX running shoe series – which utilized an equally enduring technology also designed by Jacques, the adidas Torsion system. The sleek craftsmanship of the ZX range – which originally ran between 1984 and 1989 and was later in 1991 replaced by the equally as iconic Equipment range – ZX embodied adidas’ commitment to high-performance functionality, with the Torsion system playing a key role. By using a TPU arch to bridge the heel and forefoot it allows the front and rear of the foot to operate and adapt to surfaces independently, offering high degrees of support and stability.

The ZX 10000C is the long-awaited answer  to many collectors question ‘what happened after ZX 9000?’ The ZX 10000 C retains the Torsion system that remains a proud part of adidas’ performance capabilities to this day, in a shoe that at first glance reads like a never before seen model from the original ZX archives that has only just been unearthed. Its aqua, orange and neutral colouring inspires nostalgia for a very specific era of performance footwear, utilized across a diverse blend of natural and technical fabrications that include mesh underlays, webbed Three Stripes, premium suede overlays and reinforced TPU on the ghilly and heel.

This season, adidas Consortium is diverging slightly from the usual Consortium template with a number of releases designed entirely in-house. They nevertheless capture the spirit of the Consortium family, and its celebration of visionary creators who simultaneously draw on the past and look to the future.

When it first appeared in 1997, the FYW S-97 was the first running shoe to utilize adidas’ Feetyouwear technology. This innovative design principle was built on the realisation that square-cut soles – as most sporting footwear had at the time – were one of the main causes of instability in a shoe, leading to injuries from ankle roll and other motions caused by the shoe not naturally following the shape of the human foot. The solution then was to radically alter the approach to how soles were constructed, creating wider, lower-to-the-ground soles that curved from outsole to midsole. The result was a shoe that featured an utterly unique silhouette, but without resorting to showy technological gimmicks to catch runners’ eyes.  The EVA midsole and Adiprene insert further compound the shoe’s ahead of its time ideas, and it is striking to see how the shape of the sole foresaw the evolution to barefoot-style running shoes.

The second key technology utilized in both the original and SS19 version of the FYW S-97 is the Torsion system: essentially a TPU arch that bridges the rearfoot and the forefoot, allowing each part of the foot to move independently of one another without straining the foot. In the process it offers further degrees of support and stability for wearers as they move across uneven and varied surfaces. Torsion was first released in 1989 and is a technology that the brand still uses in it’s performance silhouettes today. Originally introduced by Jacques Chassaing, the legendary designer responsible for the adidas ZX range. The ZX range was the direct predecessor to the EQT range from which the original FYW S-97 model came, and its emphasis on craftsmanship and cutting-edge technologies can be traced right through the FYW S-97 and indeed to the adidas runners of today.

From the timeless white, red and blue colorway and the ‘Freddie’ face logo, to the combination of mesh, leather and wired eyestays: every other detail in the new FYW S-97 has been chosen for its ability to reflect the qualities of the original ’97 release. A shoe that merged innovative technologies together and created an unforgettable aesthetic in the process.

This Nike React Element 87 comes dressed in a Royal Tint, Black, Wolf Grey and Solar Red color combination.

Harkening back to the south-facing beaches of Miami, the newest iteration to enter release calendars takes on an overly blue palette reminiscent of the deep oceans and bright city lights. A intersecting neon pink weaves in and out of the upper from the heel counter, to the underlying body of the lace stay, and splitting seam along the forefoot. Wolfg Grey overlays alongside a bright white midsole unit balance the shoe perfectly, finishing off what can only be a 2019 splash.

2019 will also have a strong lineup of Nike React Element 87 releases. One of those will include this ‘Royal Tint’ edition that will launch in February 15th at limitEDition Barcelona.

The shoe puts a bold new aesthetic spin on the Trefoil Brand’s Futurecraft technology, placing a modernized adidas ZX4000 upper constructed of Primeknit and suede above a signature mint green Carbon 4D midsole.

Featuring a mix of white, grey, tan, and mint green with small red accents, the upper’s colorblocking exquisitely compliments the midsole’s recognizable hues, and the shoe is rounded off by a black Continental rubber outsole.
