Correfocs are run during the Festival of La Mercè in Barcelona .

La Mercè is the annual festival (festa major in Catalan) of the city of Barcelona in Catalonia. It has been an official city holiday since 1871, when the local government first organized a program of special activities to observe the Roman Catholic feast day of Our Lady of Mercy, La Mare de Déu de la Mercè in Catalan.

Some of the most important features of the festival were introduced in the year 1902, when parades included papier maché “giants” known as gegants i capgrossos and a popular dance from Empordà that was becoming popular throughout Catalonia: the Sardana. Introduced traditions are the annual Catalan Wine Fair, Castellers human towers procession ,a special Correfoc, a 10 km race and the pyro-musical, a display,featuring synchronized fireworks, water fountains and music conducted at the base of the Montjuïc mountain. The holiday has enjoyed immense local popularity ever since.

Diadora and premium sneaker retailer and old-friend partner LimitEDitions have teamed up once again to reinterpret one of the best-loved retro running hero shoe styles in the history of sneakers: Diadora N9000.
Here LimitEDitions and Diadora have taken the N9000 and decked it out in a colour execution that channels the folk energy, and authentic atmosphere of the ancient Catalan custom.

This modern Correfocs celebration is the inspiration behind the latest collaboration between LimitEDitions and Diadora.

This N9000 is constructed with black premium kangaroo leather and dons a premium wolverine suede toe section in red. The heel section features embroidered multicolour explosion of sparks, the fireworks that illuminate the processions, while on the back and internal side logo the straw textile is inspired by the material of the typical hat wore during this celebration.
Lined with goat leather, the finished product is nothing short of breathtaking irregardless of the traditional concept, and the finish is second to none. 

Finally, the N9000 Correfocs is enriched by tailor-made packaging accessories: a custom box, a custom graphic straw tissue paper, a devil keychain, an extra leather insole with hot press down logo, wolverine suede lace bag and 4 customized shoes laces.
Even more,LimitEDitions is providing a cotton bandana with embroidered Correfocs logo and straw hat for all the pairs.

The collaboration is available in solely 1/400 pairs marked with the number hot press down in wolverine leather lacelocks and exclusively at LimitEDitions.

Correfocs originate from a form of medieval street theatre called ‘Ball de Diables’, representing the fight of good against evil.
According to Joan Amades,an outstanding ethnologist and Catalan folklorist, in 1150, at the wedding banquet of the Compte de Barcelona, Berenguer IV with Princess Peronella, daughter of the King of Aragon and Catalonia. The first action, that we have documented, of a Colla de Diables took place.

Hundreds of years later,during the dictatorship,Spanish dictator Franco banned many aspects of Catalan culture, so after his death, Barcelona wanted to fill the streets once again with fire and festivity.

Correfocs ,literally in English "fire-runs" are among the most striking features present in Catalan festivals, makes sure that any festival goes with a bang!

In the correfoc, a group of ‘colles de diables’ (groups of ‘devils’) dressed in red and black as devils , wearing horns and masks and light fireworks - fixed on devil's pitchforks or strung above the route. Dancing to the sound of a rhythmic drum group, they set off their fireworks among crowds of spectators.

The spectators that participate dress to protect themselves against small burns, like with straw hats and cotton  bandanas  and attempt to get as close as possible to the devils... running with the fire.

Other spectators will watch from 'safe' distances, rapidly retreating as necessary.

However, this time, the shoe is crafted in an elegant burgundy color. Embroidered at the back of the shoe you will find a burgundy rose and the green leaf limitEDitions logo. The packaging follows the sneakers premium line and is presented in a carved wooden box for a vintage look, each one of them numbered as part of the limited edition.

The entire set results in a unique and original pair of sneakers, true to the sport-chic essence of the French brand. The collaboration between le coq sportif and limitEDitions beautifully comes together paying a tribute to the rose again, and to a very special Saint Jordi Day.

Harnessing the history of two great footballing cities, Gola Classics and limitEDitions team , have combined to create our first ever collab.

Drawing inspiration from the historical city shield of Barcelona, the first one used by "Barcelona Football Club" and Manchester coat of arms, also used by Manchester United at the same time, taken from the time of Gola’s inception date of 1905, this ‘Footballing Greats’ pack offers three no frills Harrier styles that focus purely on traditional manufacturing techniques and the finest materials.

Wools are hand selected from Manchester woollen textile manufacturing company, Mallalieus, and the trainers themselves have been handmade in Manchester. The quality leather uppers are offset by contrast wool linings and
a custom two-part insock design. For those not in the know, Harrier is Gola’s most iconic trainer design, born of humble beginnings in 1968 and today holding flagship status for the brand.

Of the three options, the Barcelona themed style features a rich tan leather upper, soft grey wool lining and gold Gola branding call outs. The limitEDitions fleur-de-lis emblem is subtly added to the lace catcher and lace keeper where it has been laser etched into the leather. If you turn to the back of the shoe the Barcelona shield has been applied with a print emboss. Other notable features include a quality triple stitch to the upper panels and fine 3M gold underlay on the Gola wingflash detail.

The Manchester themed style, in black leather, more akin with the Manchester skyline, is the perfect counter part to
the Barcelona themed option. Again featuring a soft grey wool lining, gold Gola call outs and fleur-de-lis detailing but with the Manchester coat of arms as a print emboss to the heel.

As all of them, it comes with an extra waxed premium cotton laces in flat and round options, in matching and contrast colorways and metallic old brass lace tips.

Featuring the Barcelona shield to the right heel and the Manchester coat of arms to the left, this option has an ‘out there’ British tweed upper, contrasted with rich brown leather trims and gold Gola call outs. The linning of this premium edition comes in high quality goat leather as a commemoration of the chinese horoscope in 2015 ( Year of the goat ).
